MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641024759 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 2, for 'smart helmet.'

Inventor(s) include Jerome Vasanth; and Sugumaran V.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A smart helmet (100) is designed to provide seamless, hands free emergency communication and situational awareness for a wearer. A helmet body (102) houses a microphone array (104) oriented to capture the spoken voice of the wearer, which is further processed by a voice recognition unit (106) to interpret commands and generate control signals. To ensure clarity, a noise cancellation module (108) reduces unwanted sound components, while a sensor unit (110) supplies contextual data about the wearer and surrounding environment. A plurality of camera modules (112) further enhances safety by capturing 360 degree video and audio footage. These signals and data are transmitted through a communication module (114), which is functionally connected to a user interface (126). The user interface (126) provides interactive controls, visual cues, and auditory feedback, enabling the wearer to initiate emergency communication quickly and reliably during helmet operation without manual intervention."
