MUMBAI, India, Oct. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441031833 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, on April 22, 2024, for 'smart compliant micropump.'
Inventor(s) include Thenmozhi G; and Dhanalakshmi K.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 24, under issue no. 43/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a shape memory alloy (SMA) actuated micropump. An actuator assembly (100) includes a lever arm (1) pivotally mounted at a fulcrum (6), shape memory alloy spring (5) connected between the lever arm (1) and a base plate (10), and a bellow (3) positioned between a movable frame (2a) and a fixed frame (2b). Electrical activation of the SMA spring (5a, 5b) causes contraction, which displaces the lever arm (1) and compresses the bellow (3), producing pressure. Deactivation allows the bellow (3) to expand. A reservoir (7), an inlet valve (8a), a T-joint (11), and an outlet valve (8b) define the flow path. The inlet valve (8a) and outlet valve (8b) control one-way flow through the bellow (3). The bellow (3) stores energy during compression and biases the SMA spring (5) during expansion. A casing (9) encloses the assembly to direct motion and flow."
