MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007191 A) filed by Cvr College Of Engineering, Hyderabad, Telangana, on Jan. 24, for 'smart classroom attendance system using iot with biometric authentication and classroom-level geofencing.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Bipin Bihari Jayasingh.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A Smart Classroom Attendance System automates the process of recording the student attendance by integrating biometric devices with classroom level geofencing and IoT connectivity. To validate the student identity, the system employs multiple biometric methods at the entrance of the classroom. The virtual perimeter is created using geofencing with IoT to verify the identity and record the attendance when the student is present in the geofence area that avoids the proxy attendance. Biometric terminals are connected to edge gateway to process the authentication data locally while minimizing the latency and enabling real time attendance tracking. The processed data is sent to secure cloud server subsequently through Wi-Fi for storage and accessible to the administrative personnel. The cloud based dashboard is available for immediate access to the attendance information. This innovation is above the conventional attendance monitoring systems though it combines cloud server, IoT, geofencing and biometric methods."
