MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122513 A) filed by New Prince Shri Bhavani College Of Engineering And Technology; Mr. Sarveswaran S; Mr. Prasanth S; Mr. Alex V; and Mrs. G. Sheeba, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'smart chair with posture monitoring system.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Sarveswaran S; Mr. Prasanth S; Mr. Alex V; and Mrs. G. Sheeba.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This project presents a Smart Desk integrated with a real-time posture monitoring system aimed at promoting ergonomic health during prolonged desk usage. Utilizing a USB camera and Python-based pose estimation algorithms, the system continuously analyzes the user's sitting posture. When poor posture is detected, alerts are triggered via an ESP32 microcontroller, which activates a buzzer and displays a warning on an 12C LCD screen. Additionally, an loT -enabled notification system sends an email alert to reinforce corrective action. The modular design ensures seamless communication between the PC and ESP32 through serial data exchange, enabling efficient posture classification and response. This solution not only enhances user awareness but also contributes to long-term spinal health by encouraging consistent posture correction. The system is scalable, low-cost, and adaptable for educational, professional, and healthcare environments, demonstrating the practical impact of embedded systems and JoT in everyday well ness applications. Keywords: loT, ergonomics, smart chairs, and posture monitoring systems."
