MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641043489 A) filed by Rns Institute Of Technology; Naresh L; Nikhil Sai A; Nishchal A S; Soumya N G; and Jeevitha M, Bangalore, Karnataka, on April 6, for 'smart blind assistance stick with multi-zone ultrasonic obstacle detection, water sensing, and adaptive alert system.'
Inventor(s) include Jeevitha M; Soumya N G; Nishchal A S; Nikhil Sai A; and Naresh L.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Blind individuals face serious problems while walking due to inability to see obstacles or wet surfaces ahead. Existing white canes only detect objects by physical touch and give no advance warning. Some electronic sticks produce a buzzer sound but all with the same tone, so the user cannot tell how close the obstacle is. This invention presents a Smart Blind Stick that uses an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to detect obstacles and produce three different buzzer patterns based on distance - one beep for far, two beeps for medium, and continuous beep for very close. It also uses a moisture sensor to detect water on the ground and gives a separate alert. The device runs on a 9V battery and is low cost and easy to build."
