MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611002188 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Jan. 8, for 'smart autonomous waste collection system.'

Inventor(s) include Kirti; Arpita; and Soni Singh.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a smart autonomous waste collection system (100) designed to detect, capture, and segregate waste without manual intervention. The system (100) comprises ultrasonic sensors (102) and infrared sensors (104) that identify objects near the bin opening, triggering a motorized fan (106) to generate suction within a suction chamber (108). A funnel-shaped opening (110) guides waste efficiently into the chamber. The system (100) incorporates a standby module (112) for energy-efficient operation and an activation module (122) to reinitiate activity upon detection or at scheduled intervals. A sorting mechanism with compartments (116) and (118) and sorting sensors (120) automatically separates biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. The controller (114) coordinates all operations, providing a hygienic, efficient, and intelligent solution for modern waste management."
