MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075376 A) filed by Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College on June 18, 2026, for "smart Assistive Hat: Real-Time Obstacle Detection And Voice -Guided Navigation System For Visually.
Inventors include Dr. M. Auxilia; Thamizharasi E; Venkatarajaa. V; Gokulraj. V; and Kamesh. S.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses a wearable, real-time, voice-guided obstacle detection system to enhance mobility, safety, and independence for visually impaired l 0 individuals. This invention addresses the significant limitations of traditional mobility aids such as white canes and guide dogs, as well as existing Electronic Travel Aids (ETAs), which fail to detect overhead obstacles, ground hazards, or provide real-time intuitive feedback. The Smart Assistive Hat integrates multiple ultrasonic sensors(2) for multi-directional obstacle detection achieving 94% accuracy, a Time-of-Flight (ToF) 15 sensor (3) for ground hazard detection (potholes, stairs, speed breakers) achieving 90% accuracy, an ESP8266 microcontroller (1) executing a rule-based Voice-Guided Feedback Algorithm (5) for real-time decision making, and a voice feedback module (4) delivering immediate audio alerts such as "Obstacle Ahead," "Obstacle Left," and 'Watch Your Step" with under 250ms latency. The system operates fully offline without 20 internet dependence, is powered by a rechargeable battery for portability, and is embedded into a lightweight, ergonomic hat for hands-free daily use.
