MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521114872 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Maharashtra, on Nov. 21, 2025, for 'small molecular antibacterial compositions and uses thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Venkateswarlu Yarlagadda; and Akash Dutta.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Small molecular antibacterial compositions and uses thereof. Disclosed herein are compounds of Formula I and Formula II, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, stereoisomers, solvates or hydrates thereof. The compounds, according to the embodiments herein, inhibit the function of cell wall lipids, thereby disrupting cell wall biosynthesis and impairing bacterial membrane potential. The compounds exhibit antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens, including Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and acid-fast Gram-positive bacteria. The compounds possess a dual antibacterial mechanism of action and demonstrate significant synergistic efficacy in combination with conventional antibiotics against multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens. Furthermore, the compounds effectively inhibit bacterial growth in murine skin infection model, indicating their promising in vivo antibacterial efficacy."
