MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611025369 A) filed by Rayat Bahra University; Rayat Bahra Professional University; and Bahra University, Greater Mohali, Punjab, on March 3, for 'single use hypodermic syringe.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A single use hypodermic syringe, comprising of a barrel 101 with a distal end and a proximal end, a needle hub 102 with a hollow injection needle in fluid communication with a fluid lumen of the barrel 101 and a flange at the proximal end of the barrel 101, a plunger shaft 104 for manual actuation, at least one capillary groove so that liquid from a first injection, by trace exposure or controlled back flow, is directed to contact and dissolve the masking film, an optical air bubble sensor pair 107 to detect continuity or discontinuity of a liquid column flowing through an inspection chamber 105 based on light transmission and/or refraction, without contacting the drug, and a pressure responsive air vent membrane 106 to be mechanically actuated by localized pressure generated by rising air bubbles, to vent trapped air to the exterior while resisting passage of liquid."
