MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521134690 A) filed by Dr. Gajanan Patil, Pune, Maharashtra, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'shuddha gairik (purified red ochre) and honey gel for enhanced oral ulcer healing.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Gajanan Patil.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to pharmaceutical topical formulations, specifically Ayurvedic-inspired medicated gels for treating lesions of the oral mucosa (such as aphthous stomatitis or "mouth ulcers"). A novel topical gel for treating oral ulcers combines purified Shuddha Gairik (red ochre, iron oxide) and honey in a carbomer 10 gel base. Shuddha Gairik (prepared by Ayurvedic purification techniques) provides astringent and soothing properties, while honey offers antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and pro-healing effects. The gel's formulation (e.g. 2% Gairik, 15% honey, 1% carbomer, with humectant and preservatives in water) yields a stable, homogenous product. In vitro and clinical evaluations show superior ulcer healing 15 and pain relief versus conventional treatment. The composition remains stable (pH ~5.5) and sterile over prolonged storage. This inventive combination exploits the synergy of traditional medicine and modern pharmaceutics to achieve faster ulcer resolution, analgesia, and infection control. The gel is inexpensive to manufacture and highly applicable in the pharmaceutical industry for oral health."
