MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641019746 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 20, for 'shelf-life indicator.'
Inventor(s) include Dr Poovarasan Murugaiyan; Dr Sowmiya K H; and Dr Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Shelf-life indicator Abstract: The present invention relates to the development of a Shelf-life indicator sticker designed to detect and visually display the freshness, shelf life, and expiry status of perishable food items. The sticker functions by responding to environmental changes and exposure conditions that occur as food deteriorates over time. It integrates chemical sensing and colorimetric detection technologies into packaging materials, providing a real-time, noninvasive, and easily interpretable method for analyzing food quality. This sticker is coted with a layer of pH-sensitive dyes such as bromothymol blue and anthocyan ins which response to prolonged exposure to the environmental. It can be easily affixed directly onto various types of food packaging and tinds application in food storage, transportation, retail packaging, and household use. It provides a cost-effective and user-friendly solution to enhance food safety, minimize waste and improve transparency across the food supply chain by giving a clear visual indication of product freshness or expiry without any specialized instruments."
