MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511113774 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on Nov. 19, 2025, for 'self-powered ai-driven health monitoring contact lens.'

Inventor(s) include Nitin Tomar; Neha Kumari; Ekta Mall; and Sandeep Kaur.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a self-powered, AI-integrated smart contact lens designed for continuous, non-invasive health monitoring through real-time analysis of tear fluid and ocular parameters. The lens incorporates a multi-sensor array to measure glucose levels, intraocular pressure, hydration/osmolarity, and oxygen concentration, enabling early detection of systemic and ocular disorders. A hybrid transparent energy harvesting system, combining micro-photovoltaic and piezoelectric elements, provides autonomous power without external charging. An ultra-low-power AI module performs on-lens data fusion, drift compensation, and predictive analytics, transmitting secure health information via encrypted BLE/NFC communication to paired devices. Constructed from biodegradable, medical-grade hydrogel, the lens offers comfort, sustainability, and safety, providing a compact, eco-friendly platform for accurate, real-time, and privacy-preserving health monitoring."
