MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133963 A) filed by Dr. Mahalingam College Of Engineering And Technology, Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'self-healing natural fiber composite panel using microcapsulated resin.'

Inventor(s) include Naveen Kumar S; N. Shanmuga Sundaram; and K. Sasikumar.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention involves a self-healing composite panel that is reinforced with natural fibers like okra. The healing composition of microscopiccapsules of a healing resin is uniform!) dispersed in a polymer matrix. When subjected to loading cycles, impacts, and environmental changes, minute crack formations start occuring in the matrix. With time, as the cracks develop,' the microcapsules burst, releasing a healing resin that flows straight to the site of th~ crack. Upon being released, it comes into contact with a healing catalyst that has already beer present in the matrix, which triggers a polymerization reaction that effectively binds the crack and restores it to a sound condition. This invention provides a sustainable and cost-effective repair solution compared to conventional synthetic repair solutions. Based on this invention, which takes advantage of natural fibers and provides a healing mechanism, fatigue life, as well as reliability, has been enhanced in the composite panel."
