MUMBAI, India, Aug. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411003990 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on Jan. 19, 2024, for 'security-based steering wheel locking device.'

Inventor(s) include Ashish Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 8, under issue no. 32/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A security-based steering wheel locking device, comprises of an elongated body 1 developed to be positioned over a steering wheel of a vehicle by a user, an ultrasonic sensor integrated with the body 1 for monitoring dimensions of the steering wheel, a linear actuator 2 assembled within the body 1 for extending/retracting the body 1, a clamping unit 3 assembled with ends of the body 1 for affixing the body 1 on the steering wheel, a telescopically operated bar 4 integrated on each of the ends to extended/retracted for positioning a suction cup 5 integrated on the bar 4 on windshield of the vehicle, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 6 embedded on the body 1 to determine facial features of a user present in proximity to the body 1, and a speaker 7 integrated on the body 1 to alert nearby people regarding unauthorized access of the vehicle."
