MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124445 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'scissor with integrated clamp for blood bag segment cutting.'
Inventor(s) include Mahizhan. R; S Rajeshkumar; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Scissor with Integrated Clamp for Blood Bag Tubing Sectioning The present invention relates to a scissor with an integrated clamp designed for use in blood centre's to improve safety during blood bag tubing sectioning. Conventional scissors often result in blood spillage from tubing segments, creating contamination hazards for personnel and work surfaces. Existing alternatives such as tube sealers are expensive, electricity-dependent, and impractical in resource-limited settings. . . The invention incorporates a clamp positioned on the upper surface of one cutting blade. The clamp engages and occludes the tubing lumen prior to the cutting action, thereby preventing leakage. The clamp operates independently from the cutting edges and may include a ratchet, spring, or equivalent mechanism to ensure complete occlusion. The device is reusable, autoclavable, ergonomic, and requires no external power. By integrating clamping and cutting into a single handheld instrument, the invention minimizes biohazard risk, reduces contamination, and offers a cost-effective solution for routine blood center operations."
