MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311084784 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 12, 2023, for 'safety system for child seat and a method of securing child seat in a vehicle.'

Inventor(s) include Raja Rajat Walia; Sayyaf Ibrahim; Rixson Varghese; Vivek Bharadwaj; Soundarya Kamath; Arjun Raje Urs; Suhas Badadal; Vijay Premchandran; and Somashekara Kattigehalli.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure elaborates upon a safety system (100) for a child seat (102) in a vehicle (200). The system (100) comprises a rotary mechanism (104) configured with one or more child seats (102) of the vehicle to rotate the corresponding child seat (102), and a controller in communication with the rotary mechanism (104). The controller is configured to detect an upcoming event of a frontal/rear impact on the vehicle (200) and actuate the rotary mechanism (104), upon detection of the upcoming frontal/rear impact event, to rotate the one or more child seats (102) by predefined angles such that the one or more child seats (102) rotates to a position where the child seat (102) faces a direction perpendicular to a direction extending from a rear side to a front side of the vehicle. and opposite to a side door adjacent to the corresponding child seat (102)."
