MUMBAI, India, June 16 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611053392 A) filed by Mr. Mudassir Imam; Mohd. Amaan; Mr. Sarfaraj Ansari; and Ms. Prachi Pundhir, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on April 27, for 'saferoads: an ai-powered driver monitoring system.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Mudassir Imam; Mohd. Amaan; Mr. Sarfaraj Ansari; and Ms. Prachi Pundhir.

The application for the patent was published on June 5, under issue no. 23/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This research paper presents an AI-based driver monitoring system that uses computer vision and deep learning techniques to analyse driver behaviour in real-time to improve road safety. The system analyses facial indicators like eye aspect ratio, yawning frequency, gaze direction, and head posture to identify crucial risk variables, such as tiredness, distraction, intoxication, and emotional states. Subtle signs of weariness and intoxication-like symptoms can be detected using a multimodal behavioural approach without the need for additional hardware beyond a regular camera. By combining gaze patterns, emotions, and fatigue-related characteristics, the framework creates a dynamic sleepiness risk score that allows for prompt audible and visual alarms to avert accidents. Additionally, the system may be integrated with a web-based dashboard to visualise trends and event history, and it allows session logging for post-drive analysis. The solution seeks to serve as a non-intrusive safety companion for drivers by offering intelligent recommendations and real-time feedback, such as suggestingbreaks or soothing activities. This study shows that software-only driver monitoring with AI is feasible and effective, providing a scalable and affordable substitute for conventional sensor-based systems. Keywords: Driver Monitoring System, Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Eye Aspect Ratio(EAR), Drowsiness Detection, Emotion Recognition, Gaze Tracking, PERCLOS, Multi- modal Fusion, Convolutional Neural Network, Road Safety."
