MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541134136 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'ru(ii) complexes and a method of preparation thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Somnath Maji; Anushka Verma; and Sourav Deb.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a luminescent ruthenium(II) coordination complex having chemical structural formula I. The ruthenium(II) coordination complex offers selective and sensitive detection of cyanide ions in aqueous media. The complex contains a tridentate ligand, a substituted bipyridine ligand and a pyrazole ligand with a free -NH group that enables specific interaction with cyanide, producing distinct optical and electrochemical responses. The invention operates effectively in water at micromolar concentrations, consistent with drinking-water safety limits, and allows visible detection. It provides a stable, water-compatible and practical solution for real-time cyanide monitoring in environmental and industrial water samples."
