MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062337 A) filed by Adichunchanagiri University; and Adichunchanagiri Institute Of Medical Sciences, Mandya, Karnataka, on May 16, for 'role of shear wave elastography in evaluation of breast masses with fnac/hpe correlation.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Kushal M; and Dr. Shashikumar M. R.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A novel ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) integrated diagnostic system and method is proposed for accurate, non-invasive differentiation of benign and malignant breast masses. The system combines conventional grayscale ultrasound with quantitative shear wave elastography to measure tissue stiffness in kiloPascals (kPa), enabling improved characterization of palpable breast lesions. By integrating real-time stiffness mapping with BI-RADS classification, the method achieves high specificity while maintaining strong sensitivity, helping reduce unnecessary biopsies in BI-RADS 3 and low-suspicion 4a lesions. Clinical validation on 52 patients demonstrated 87.5% sensitivity and 90% specificity for elastography, compared to 93.7% sensitivity and 70% specificity for grayscale US alone. The combined approach enhances diagnostic confidence, minimizes patient anxiety, and supports better clinical decision-making in breast cancer screening and diagnosis."
