MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641051676 A) filed by Sr University, Warangal, Telangana, on April 23, for 'robotic system and method for automated orchard pruning.'

Inventor(s) include Ms. Pooja Srivastav; Mr. T. Sai Krishna Reddy; and Dr. Tithli Sadhu.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated orchard pruning system (100) mounted on a tractor-supported structure is disclosed. The system (100) comprising a vision sensing unit (102) to scan a canopy of trees and generate image data, a robotic arm (104) to position a cutting tool (106) to cut the target branches, a sealing unit (108) to apply a protective sealant onto exposed cut surfaces, a collection mechanism (110) to capture pruned branches during cutting, a conveying mechanism (112) to transport captured branches to a storage unit (116). The system (100) is configured to receive image data, process the image data, detect disease presence, generate control signals for positioning, generate control signals for actuating, control operation, and record operational data. The system (100) may provide efficient, reliable, and adaptive orchard pruning with improved operational effectiveness."
