MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102932 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 25, 2025, for 'robotic bridge inspection drone system with ai-based crack detection and structural health assessment.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Manik Rakhra.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A robotic bridge inspection system (100) comprising a multi-rotor UAV platform (102) with high-resolution optical cameras (104), thermal sensors (106), LiDAR/3D scanners (108), and an AI-based crack detection module (110) for autonomous structural monitoring. The UAV (102) navigates complex bridge geometries using GPS, SLAM, and obstacle avoidance sensors, capturing detailed visual, thermal, and geometric data. The AI module (110) detects micro-cracks, corrosion, delamination, and spalling, distinguishing anomalies from surface artifacts. Data is preprocessed locally and in cloud infrastructure (114), integrated into 3D bridge models, and used to generate inspection reports, defect severity scores, and predictive maintenance recommendations. The system (100) reduces labor-intensive manual inspections, enhances safety, minimizes downtime, and allows scalable, automated monitoring of bridges for efficient and accurate structural health assessment."
