MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541121112 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 3, 2025, for 'ripenpro-smart ethylene controlled ripening box.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. K. P. Indira; Dr. T. Sathish; and Dr Ramya Mohan.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "RipenPro - Smart Ethylene-Controlled Ripening Box is a compact, IoT-enabled device that is designed to facilitate uniform, safe, and eco-friendly ripening of climacteric fruits such as bananas, mangoes, papayas, and avocados. Unlike conventional methods that involve hazardous chemicals like calcium carbide or uncontrolled exposure to ethylene gas, RipenPro offers a scientifically controlled environment in which the key parameters - ethylene concentration, humidity, temperature, and airflow - are precisely supervised and regulated. This incorporates a microcontroller-based unit interfaced with gas sensors (for ethylene), temperature and humidity sensors, a controlled ethylene release mechanism, and ventilation fans to ensure homogenous ripening. An user friendly digital interface and mobile application allow for real-time tracking, customization of ripening cycles, and alerts for completion or anomaly detection. Its modular compact design is supporting different batch sizes, making it suitable for farmers, cold storage units, fruit vendors, and small-scale agro-processing industries. This ensures a minimal post-harvest loss, better colour development, enhanced taste profile, and extended life of produce. With the use of data-driven algorithms for cycle optimization makes RipenPro not only a tool for quality."
