MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123491 A) filed by Anurag Engineering College, Suryapet, Telangana, on Dec. 8, 2025, for 'revolutionary techniques for advanced water purification and sustainable desalination practices.'
Inventor(s) include Dr S. S. Pulla Reddy.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The escalating global water scarcity challenge necessitates sustainable and technologically advanced solutions to ensure dependable freshwater supplies. Desalination and modern water treatment have become essential tools for expanding water resources across regions facing shortages. This chapter presents a detailed overview of desalination fundamentals, addressing both operational complexities and environmental impacts. It examines key membrane-based processes-including Reverse Osmosis (RO), Nanofiltration (NF), and Ultrafiltration (UF)-along with emerging techniques such as Forward Osmosis (FO), Pressure-Retarded Osmosis (PRO), Electrodialysis, and capacitive deionization. Thermal desalination approaches are also explored to highlight their continued relevance in large-scale water production. Additionally, the chapter discusses innovative and sustainable desalination technologies aimed at reducing energy consumption and ecological footprints. The critical roles of pre-treatment and post-treatment processes in enhancing system performance and ensuring safe water quality are underscored. Finally, future research directions are outlined to guide advancements toward resilient and equitable global water security."
