MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641019695 A) filed by Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Puducherry, India, on Feb. 20, for 'revolutionary smart helmet for enhancement rider safety.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. V. S. K Venkatachalapathy; Dr. A. A. Arivalagar; Dr. A. Thiagaraian; Ms. M. Subitha; Abilash K; Sal Kumar M; Sri Sanjana M; Yeshwant N; and Shanmugapriya M.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The titled invention discloses a smart helmet system designed to improve two-wheeler . rider safety through active accident prevention and automated emergency response. The system includes a helmet enclosure (1) housing an embedded microcontroller unit (2) connected to an alcohol detection sensor (3), a helmet-wearing detection 10 mechanism (4), a relay module (5), a crash or fall detection mechanism (6), a GPS module (7), and a GSM module (8). The alcohol detection sensor (3) monitors the rider's breath and restricts vehicle ignitioo interface (11) when intoxication is detected, while the helmet-wearing detection mechanism (4) ensures that the vehicle can be operated only when the helmet is properly worn. The relay module (5) controls the 15 vehicle ignition based on safety conditions processed by the microcontroller unit (2). Upon detection of a crash or fall, the GPS module (7) provides real-time location data and the GSM module (8) transmits emergency alert messages to nearby hospitals and predefined contacts. All the components runs efficiently by means of continuous power supply via power management unit (9) installed with battery. A web-based monitoring 20 interface (10) enables real-time visualization of rider status and location. The invention provides a reliable, cost-effective, and integrated solution for preventing unsafe riding and enabling rapid emergency assistance."
