MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641022195 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 25, for 'retrofit cpap/b ipap oxygen prognostics and alert system.'
Inventor(s) include Muthumani Thiruselvam; Dr. Manisha Jayakumar; and Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a retrofit inline oxygen monitoring system for CPAP and BiPAP respiratory therapy devices. The system integrates a detachable sensor module with pressure and tlow sensors to continuously monitor oxygen supply and usage. An embedded microcontroller executes prognostic algorithms to estimate remaining oxygen and adjust predictions dynamically based on real-time consumption. Alerts are delivered via a mask-mounted intert~1ce using visual indicators and low-frequency auditory signals, with user acknowledgment to prevent unnecessary escalation. Wireless eommunication via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi transmits real-time status, alerts, and usage hist01y to a smartphone application and caregiver cloud platform, enabling remote clinician monitoring. The system operates independently using a rechargeable batte1y, improving the safety, reliability, and continuity of oxygen therapy."
