MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048307 A) filed by Scms School Of Engineering And Technology, Ernakulam, Kerala, on April 16, for 'rescue robot using vlm.'

Inventor(s) include Benitto M. P; G Kamal; Amarnath P. T; P. S Fathima Nourin; and Dr. Anandhi V.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disaster environments such as fire accidents hazards and structures require situational awareness and intelligent decision making to reduce human risk. The invention presents a Vision Language Model integrated autonomous rescue rover built on a hybrid edge server architecture. A Raspberry Pi based rover performs sensor acquisition motor control and video capture while a remote server executes computationally intensive perception tasks. Live video streams are transmitted for YOLO based detection of fire smoke and human presence. Detected events are validated through a Vision Language Model using contextual reasoning to reduce false positives and generate structured outputs. Environmental sensors monitor temperature gas concentration and smoke levels to enhance reliability. A web-based dashboard enables monitoring logging and command control using text or voice inputs. The separation of perception validation and actuation improves scalability latency handling and computational efficiency. The system enhances detection robustness contextual awareness and emergency response effectiveness in hazardous environments."
