MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441006099 A) filed by Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 30, 2024, for 'repairing cartilage damage at point of care.'

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure is directed to the repair of cartilage damage which comprises the harvest of the cartilage, followed by processing, digestion, and incorporation of the cartilage fragments into a biomimetic scaffold for subsequent implantation into the site of cartilage repair. The harvested cartilage is minced by the cutting and shaving tools. The cutting tool cuts the predefined grids on the patient's articular end of the bone. Shaver completes the harvest by controlling the thickness of the minced cartilage. By integrating a dedicated shaver in addition to the cutting tool into the cartilage processing device, the present disclosure addresses the drawbacks of existing devices and provides an efficient and precise solution for obtaining finely cut cartilage fragments."
