MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611027074 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University, Gurugram, Haryana, on March 8, for 'reflective smart school uniforms for road safety in low visibility situations.'
Inventor(s) include Paramjeet Kaur; Dr. Nikhilesh Sharma; Dr. Ravi Butola; and Dev Malhotra.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A reflective smart school uniform is disclosed for improving road safety of school-going children in low-visibility situations. The uniform integrates retro-reflective strips/panels on predefined garment zones such as collar, shoulders, sleeves and back panels to return incident light toward a source, thereby enhancing wearer visibility under vehicle headlights or low ambient light. The reflective elements are secured using reinforced stitching and optional protective coatings to maintain wash durability and comfort, while limiting incremental cost to support scalable adoption in school systems."
