Inventor(s) include Renukaradya V; Dr. Kumar P K; Shreyas M S; Bhavana G; Dr. Paramesh S P; Dr. Nageshwari; Suryakant; and Varadaraj R.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A brake pad wear monitoring system is disclosed in which a time-of-flight optical distance sensor is mounted on a bracket fixed to a brake caliper body so that the sensor's optical axis is directed towards a surface of a brake pad. The sensor is housed behind an optical window and is coupled to an embedded controller through a digital interface. The controller acquires distance measurements, establishes a baseline distance corresponding to a new brake pad, and determines wear depth, remaining pad thickness and wear percentage within a predefined measurement range. When a configurable threshold based on the calculated wear is reached, the controller generates a brake pad wear alert and drives a local display unit to indicate the pad condition. Preferred embodiments incorporate anti contamination features for the optical window and diagnostic functions for detecting sensor or window faults. The invention enables continuous, non-contact monitoring of brake pad wear using a compact caliper mounted sensor and simp."
