MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062289 A) filed by Dhaanish Ahmed Institute Of Technology; and J Shahulhameed, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on May 16, for 'real-time driver drowsiness detection using eye aspect ratio and convolutional neural networks with behavioral analysis.'

Inventor(s) include J Shahulhameed; Ganapathy B; Habeebur Rahman M; Syed Ahmed Jaafri M; and Syed Mustaq Ahmed S.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a real-time driver drowsiness detection system using Eye Aspect Ratio (EAR), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and behavioral analysis techniques. The system captures live facial video frames, extracts facial landmarks, computes EAR values, and classifies driver alertness states using deep learning algorithms. Behavioral parameters including blink frequency, yawning, head movement, and gaze tracking are analyzed to improve detection accuracy. Upon identifying drowsiness conditions, the system generates warning alerts to prevent accidents. The invention provides a non-invasive, accurate, and computationally efficient solution for enhancing road safety and intelligent transportation systems."
