MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122979 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'real-time bicycle tracking and rental system.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a real-time bicycle tracking and rental system including IoT hardware modules mounted on bicycles. Each module includes a GPS module capturing real-time location coordinates, wireless communication capability transmitting coordinates to a remote server, a backend server receiving and processing location data, a database storing bicycle information, a user interface displaying bicycle locations and availability, and real-time mapping capability showing current bicycle locations with visual indicators on an interactive map. Each IoT module includes an ESP8266 microcontroller and GPS NEO-6M module, where the ESP8266 receives GPS data from the NEO-6M and transmits via Wi-Fi to the backend server."
