MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421006463 A) filed by Evhicle Mobility Pvt. Ltd., Pune, Maharashtra, on Jan. 31, 2024, for 'range extending apparatus for electric vehicles.'

Inventor(s) include Harshad Sunil Bokil.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is a range extending apparatus (102) for electric vehicles (100), featuring a controller (104B) in communication with both a traction battery (106) and multiple swappable batteries (112). The controller (104B) determines the collective power required from the swappable batteries (112), aiming to maintain a state of charge of the traction battery (106) at a defined threshold or recharge it when below. Additionally, the controller (104B) assesses a maximum continuous power of each swappable battery based on predefined parameters, facilitating the transfer of a second power amount to a vehicle power line (110) of the electric vehicle (100). This transfer is contingent upon an inequality relationship between the required power and the calculated maximum continuous power of the respective swappable battery. In essence, the range extending apparatus (102) optimizes power distribution for enhanced electric vehicle range and performance."
