MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124169 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 9, 2025, for 'rain-smart traffic navigation and rerouting system using real-time weather and road condition.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. K. Kowsalyadevi; Mr. V. S. Sreesanth; and Mr. M. R. Vignesh Karthikeyan.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a Rain-Smart Traffic Navigation and Rerouting System that integrates real-time weather data, IoT-based road condition sensors, and crowdsourced user reports to provide safe and efficient vehicle routing during rainfall events. The system comprises a Weather API Module (101) for acquiring rainfall intensity and forecasts, an IoT Road Sensor Network (102) for detecting waterlogging and flood levels, a Crowdsourced Reporting Module (103) for receiving hazard updates from users, and a Data Integration Module (104) for aggregating the inputs. An AI-Based Prediction Engine (105) analyzes these data sources along with historical rainfall and traffic impact data to calculate rain-adjusted Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), compute delay multipliers, and generate safe alternate routes that avoid waterlogged or flood-prone areas. A Navigation and Routing Module (106) provides dynamic route guidance."
