MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511114981 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on Nov. 21, 2025, for 'rain-reactive flip case with smart hydrophobic eject sheet for screen protection.'
Inventor(s) include Navneet Kaur; and Dr. Gargee Chakraborty.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an intelligent weather-adaptive mobile flip-case designed to protect a smartphone screen from rain and high humidity. The case integrates a retractable, transparent hydrophobic membrane housed within the flap, which automatically deploys over the touchscreen upon detection of moisture via embedded humidity and raindrop sensors. Deployment and retraction are controlled by a mechanical actuation system, such as spring-assisted rollers, tension bands, and micro-motors, powered by a micro-battery optionally supplemented with a solar cell. The hydrophobic membrane repels water droplets while maintaining capacitive touch functionality and optical clarity. Users may also manually deploy and retract the membrane through a dedicated interface. The disclosed invention provides hands-free, real-time screen protection without compromising device usability, portability, and aesthetics, offering a novel and practical solution for smartphone operation in wet/ humid conditions."
