MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123240 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 6, 2025, for 'quantum-enhanced convolutional neural network for image classification.'
Inventor(s) include P Balakrishnan; A Anny Leema; and Svetanshu Gupta Veloor.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a quantum-enhanced convolutional neural network system for image classification. The system includes a quantum circuit processor (1) configured to process image data, where the quantum circuit processor includes qubits configured to encode pixel intensity values from image patches, quantum gates configured to manipulate quantum states, and measurement operators configured to extract quantum features. The system further includes a classical neural network backend operatively connected to the quantum circuit processor and configured to receive the quantum features and perform classification operations. The quantum gates include RY rotation gates configured to encode pixel intensity values as quantum rotation angles and CNOT gates arranged to create entanglement between adjacent qubits. The measurement operators include Pauli-Z operators configured to extract expectation values representing quantum features including mean intensity, maximum value, minimum value, and standard deviation."
