MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521118646 A) filed by Ms. Diksha Bhagwan Shinde; and Mr. Abhijit Ravindra Shitole, Pune, Maharashtra, on Nov. 28, 2025, for 'qr code enabled packaging system for enhancing patient medication compliance and risk benefit awareness.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. Diksha Bhagwan Shinde; and Mr. Abhijit Ravindra Shitole.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system and method are disclosed for using Quick Response (QR) codes on pharmaceutical packaging to enhance patient medication adherence and to improve patient understanding of drug risks and benefits. Each medication package carries a unique QR code that, when scanned by the patient's smartphone, accesses a remote server containing detailed product information. The server transmits to the smartphone a summary of the medication's therapeutic benefits, dosage instructions, and potential side effects. Each scan is logged for compliance tracking. If the system detects that a scheduled dose scan has not occurred in time, it automatically generates a reminder alert. By integrating printed QR codes with mobile applications and networked databases, the invention ensures patients receive current, easy-to-understand information about their therapy at the point of use. This incentivizes adherence and informed use of medications, thereby improving treatment outcomes and patient safety."
