MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517056214 A) filed by Topsoe A/S, Lyngby, Denmark, on June 11, for 'purified biomass based compositions comprising ethylene glycol and use thereof to produce a polyester.'

Inventor(s) include Osmundsen, Christian Marup; Pedersen, Lars Saaby; Taarning, Esben; and Beier, Matthias Josef.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method of purifying a biomass based composition comprising ethylene glycol, the method comprising: (a) providing the biomass based composition comprising water in an amount of at least 0.1 wt.%, based on the weight of the biomass based composition; and (b) contacting the biomass based composition with a solid acid catalyst and contacting the biomass based composition with an aldehyde removal resin to provide a purified biomass based composition."

The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 21, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/087236.
