MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087868 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 21, 2023, for 'protection against water spillage into a luggage compartment of a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Sachin Patil; and Thomas Wolfer.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A tailgate 100 for a luggage compartment 102 of a vehicle can include a handlebar 200 that includes a first part 202 made of a soft material and a second part 204 made of a hard material such that the first part 202 is positioned between the lower side of the tailgate 100 and the handlebar 200, and projects inwardly in a flange shaped structure to block a path for a water jet entering from a gap 108 between a bumper 104 associated with the tailgate 100 and the lower end of the tailgate 100. Blocking of the path prevents water jet from hitting a seal 106 fitted around an opening of the luggage compartment 102 and penetrating into the luggage compartment."
