MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641008474 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 28, for 'propulsion system for unmanned aerial vehicles and method thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Sahaya Beni Prathiba; Dhanalakshmi R; Saumyarup Guha; and Divyanshu Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A propulsion system (100) for an unmanned aerial vehicle (102) includes a propulsion module (104), a structural integrity monitoring modules (106) associated with propulsion modules (104), a self-healing module (108) integrated with propulsion modules (104), a blade replacement module (112) coupled coaxially with propulsion modules (104) to house a spare propeller blade (402), and a control unit (110) in communication with said modules. Control unit (110) to receive signals from structural integrity monitoring modules (106) indicative of structural anomalies, damage, or deformation in at least one propeller blade (202) to assess a real-time blade condition. Control unit (110) evaluates damage severity relative to a predefined threshold, activates the self-healing module (108) during flight when damage is below threshold, actuates blade replacement module (112) during flight when damage meets or exceeds threshold, and reports blade condition and repair status updates to a ground station (150) via a communication module (114)."
