MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517044603 A) filed by Bae Systems Bofors Ab, Karlskoga, Sweden, on May 8, for 'projectile with an obturator ring method for manufacturing and method for arrangement of an obturator ring.'
Inventor(s) include Thuman Christer; Hamdan Hamzah; and Johansson Bjorn.
The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention concerns a projectile (100) arranged with an obturator ring (1 ) intended to be fired from a weapon system with a barrel where the obturator ring (1 ) is arranged with at least one obturator segment (2 3) arranged with at least one slot (20) where the at leas one obturator segment (2 3) is held together and retained in the projectile by means of an annular gasket (10) attached to the at least one obturator segment (2 3). The invention further concerns a method for the manufacture of an obturator ring (1 ) and a method for the arrangement of an obturator ring (1) on a projectile."
The patent application was internationally filed on Oct. 12, 2023, under International application No.PCT/SE2023/051019.
