MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641021654 A) filed by Psg Institute Of Technology And Applied Research; and Psg College Of Arts & Science, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 24, for 'production of isatin-schiff base derivatives as latent curative for epoxy resins.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. A. Kumaravel; Dr. M. Selvi; Dr. S. Devaraju; and Dr. M. Alagar.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention deals with the production of structurally modified I satin based melamine, and guanylthiourea-Schiff base derivatives (MIS and GIS) under suitable experimental conditions. The Jsatin-Schiff based derivatives are characterized for their curing temperature with varied nature of epoxy resins, corrosion resistant, storage life, thermal stability, percentage char yield, flame resistance, water contact angle, and percentage moisture absorption using appropriate analytical instruments and standard methods, with a view to ascertain their suitability for latent curatives, thermal and corrosion resistant coatings under different environments. The polymerization (curing) temperature of lsatin-Schiff based derivatives cured DGEBA (BAE) and DGEBF (BFE) epoxies are ranged between 164 C and 258 C. The storage life of lsatin-Schiff based derivatives mixed separately with BAE and BFE epoxies at 30 "C are found to be more than 3 months. The I 0% weight decomposition temperature (Tct) obtained for lsatin-Schiff based derivatives cured BAE and BFE epoxies are ranged between 342 C and 369 "C. The flame-retardant behavior of lsatin-Schiff based derivatives cured BAE and BFE epoxies possess VO rating and their values of LOI calculated based on char yield are ranged between 26.14 % and 36.96 %. The values of water contact angle of lsatin-Schiff based derivatives cured BAE and BFE epoxies are ranged between I 00 and II 0 and the values of moisture absorption obtained are in the range between 0.5 % and 0.9 %. The corrosion resistant behavior of Jsatin-Schiff based derivatives cured BAE and BFE epoxies possess excellent corrosion resistant properties with corrosion inhibition efficiency of over 95 % in acidic, basic and neutral conditions. The present invention is considered as the cutting-edge concept in the field of modified lsatin-Schiff based derivative as latent curatives for epoxy resins, thermal and corrosion resistant coatings under different environments."
