MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541113644 A) filed by Psg Institute Of Medical Sciences & Research; Psg College Of Arts & Science; and Psg Institute Of Technology And Applied Research, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Nov. 19, 2025, for 'production of bio-based gallic acid derived multifunctional gma dental restorative materials.'

Inventor(s) include Appasamy Subasri; Khaja Najimudeen Mohamed Mydeen; Srinivasan Harinei; Dr. Tadury Madhukar Subbarao; Dr. Devaraju Subramani; and Dr. Muthukaruppan Alagar.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The bio-based non-estrogenic dental restorative hybrid composites are developed using chain extended gallic acid based hexa-glycidylmethacrylate (GAE- 10 GMA) with bio-compatible fillers. The GAE-GMAffEGDMA hybrid composites exhibit the values of water absorption below 3.3 wt% and solubility less than 4 wt% after immersion in solution having pH of 6.5 for 7 days at 35 C. The viscpsity of GAE-GMA varies within 2.5% variation over a storage period of 90 days. The cyto-toxic behaviour of the GAE-GMA showing 90% cell viability when tested in- 15 vitro cyto-toxicity-MIT method cell line L929. Similarly, GAE-GMA possesses an antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S.aureus, with an inhibition zone diameter greater than I I mm. The photo-initiator system comprises a binary combination of camphorquinone (CQ) and ethyl-4-dimethylaminobenzoate (EDAB), in weight percentage ratio of 0.5-1 (wt%), provide the complete curing. The cured depth of the 20 composite exceeds 3 mm under standard dental curing conditions. The curing of GAE-GMA is achieved by visible-light irradiation for 115 seconds in the absence of TEGDMA diluent. The curing time of the hybrid matrix comprising 50 wt % of GAE-GMA + 50 wt % of TEGDMA in the presence of 5 wt% and I Owt% photoinitiators are found to be II 0 and I 06 seconds respectively. The curing time of the 25 hybrid matrix comprising of 50 wt % of GAE-GMA + 50 wt % of TEGDMA in the Q) presence of photo-initiators along with bio- fillers are found in the range between 80 C) Ill and 98 seconds. The value of water contact angle of GAE-GMA is 129 and that of D.. Cll cured GAE-GMA composites are ranged between 138 and 141. The compressive strength of cured GAE-GMA is 63 MPa and that of GAE-GMA reinforced with four different fillers were found in the range between 75 and 82 MPa."
