MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541113645 A) filed by Psg Institute Of Medical Sciences & Research; Psg College Of Arts & Science; and Psg Institute Of Technology And Applied Research, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Nov. 19, 2025, for 'production of bio-based chain extended vanillin bis-gma dental hybrid composites.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Tadury Madhukar Subbarao; Khaja Najimudeen Mohamed Mydeen; Srinivasan Harinei; Appasamy Subasri; Dr. Devaraju Subramani; and Dr. Muthukaruppan Alagar.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The bio based non estrogenic dental restorative hybrid composites are developed using chain extended vanillin based bisglycidylmethacrylate (VH-GMA) with bio 10 compatible fillers. The cyto-toxic behaviour of the VH-GMA showing 90% cell viability when tested in-vitro cyto-toxicity-MIT method cell line L929 confirming suitability for biomedical application. Similarly, VH-GMA possesses an antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S aureus, with an inhibition zone diameter greater than Hi mm. The viscosity of VH-GMA changes within 3.5% over a 15 storage period of 90 days at ambient temperature in light-protected packaging. The values of water contact angle (WCA) of YH-GMA is 121 and that of VH-GMA composites are ranged between 120 and 130. The VH-GMA!TEGDMA hybrid composites exhibit the values of water absorption below 0.5 wt% and solubility less than 0.1 wt% after immersion in solution having pH of 6.5 for 7 days at 35 C. The 20 photo-initiator system used to cure VH-GMA comprises a binary combination of camphorquinone (CQ) and ethyl-4-dimethylaminobenzoate (EDAB) in weight percentage ratio of 0.5-1 (wt%), provide the complete curing. The curing of VHGMA is achieved by visible-light irradiation for 97 seconds in the absence of TEGDMA diluent. The curing time of the hybrid matrix comprising 50 wt % of 25 VH-GMA + 50 wt % of TEGDMA in the presence of 5 wt% and I 0 wt% photo- Q) initiators are found to be I 04 and 96 seconds respectively. The curing time of the C) hybrid matrix comprising of 50 wt % of YH-GMA + 50 wt % of TEGDMA in the Cll presence of 0.5 wt% and I wt% photo-initiators along with fillers are found in the range between 72 and 91 seconds. The compressive strength of YH-GMA is 60 30 MPa and that of VH-GMA composites are found in the range between 60 and 78 MPa. The present invention considered as cutting-edge concept m the field of utilization of bio-material for dental restoration."
