MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411003035 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Jan. 16, 2024, for 'process of production of edible protein from chlorella.'
Inventor(s) include Srinivasulu Reddy Venkata Mohan; and Manupati Hemalatha.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention pertains to the production of protein (CP) from Chlorella sorokiniana (SVMBIOEN3) (NCIM 5561) with significant nutritional benefits. C. sorokiniana is cultivated in a growth medium containing essential macro and micronutrients, using sodium acetate as a carbon source and sodium nitrate as a nitrogen source. This cultivation method results in a substantial biomass with a high protein content. The C. sorokiniana protein produced is rich in protein, comprising 54.4 % of its composition, and contains eight essential amino acids (EAA) at 26.36 % and nine non-essential amino acids (NEAA) at 73.36 %."
