MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541099794 A) filed by Selvaraj, Rajesh, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Oct. 15, 2025, for 'process of extraction and fractionation of cardiospermum halicacabum and applications thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to an extract(s) and fraction(s) thereof containing novel diterpenoid ester bioactive compound, isolated from the leaves of Cardiospermum halicacabum, structurally characterized with IUPAC name as (Z)-[(2S,3S,4S,6S)-3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-methyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl]icos-11-enoate. The extracts and freactions containing said bioactive compound (in the form of pharmaceutical composition) exhibits potent anti-proliferative activity against hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG-2) cells with an IC50 value of 1.977 g/ml, induces apoptosis through caspase-mediated pathways, and demonstrates antioxidant activity in DPPH assay, while showing negligible toxicity toward normal Vero cells. The extraction and fractionation process employs simple, reproducible, and scalable suitable for industrial application."
