MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517131258 A) filed by Celery Srl, Via Domenico Benedetti, Polignano a Mare, Italy, on Dec. 24, 2025, for 'process for the preparation of gamma-aminobutyric acid using lactic acid bacteria.'
Inventor(s) include Rizzello, Carlo Giuseppe; Montemurro, Marco; Carofiglio, Vito Emanuele; and Centrone, Domenico.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of ?-aminobutyric acid (GABA) using lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on vegetal matrices. In particular, the invention relates to the use of selected lactic acid bacteria for the production of ?-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on vegetal matrices such as legume flours for beneficial use in food, pharmaceuticals or cosmetics."
The patent application was internationally filed on June 25, 2024, under International application No.PCT/IB2024/056145.
