MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202537047988 A) filed by Fairlife, Llc, Chicago, on May 19, for 'process for producing galactooligosaccharides.'
Inventor(s) include Makki, Ghadeer; Drapala, Kamil P.; Ur Rehman, Shakeel; and Doelman, Timothy Peter.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Methods for making galactooligosaccharides (GOS) include (a) contacting a lactose-containing product and a first -galactosidase enzyme to form a first composition, (b) deactivating the first -galactosidase enzyme in the first composition, (c) adjusting a temperature of the first composition to within a range from 5 to 55 ?, (d) contacting the first composition and a second -galactosidase enzyme to form a second composition, (e) deactivating the second -galactosidase enzyme in the second composition, and (f) subjecting the second composition to membrane filtration to form a concentrated (GOS) composition. GOS compositions can contain 0.5 to 6 wt. % lactose and 24 to 50 wt. % GOS, based on carbohydrates, and often have a weight ratio of GOS:lactose ranging from 6:1 to 45:1."
The patent application was internationally filed on Nov. 20, 2023, under International application No.PCT/US2023/080559.
