MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517085059 A) filed by Joint Stock Company Research And Design Institute Of Urea (JSC NIIK), Dzerzhinsk, Russia, on Sept. 8, for 'process and plant for producing urea.'

Inventor(s) include Gusev, Ivan Vladimirovich; Sergeev, Yury Andreevich; Soldatov, Aleksei Vladimirovich; Prokopyev, Aleksandr Alekseevich; Suvorkin, Sergei Vyacheslavovich; and Esin, Igor Veniaminovich.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The inventions relate to a method and an apparatus for producing urea. The method includes reacting ammonia and carbon dioxide in a synthesis zone at an elevated temperature and pressure to form a flow of urea melt, successively distilling the flow of urea melt in a high-pressure stage, a medium-pressure stage and a low-pressure stage, condensing and absorbing the distillation gases to form aqueous solutions of ammonium bicarbonate salts, successively recirculating the aqueous solution of ammonium bicarbonate salts, and evaporating a urea solution. In the high-pressure stage, the urea melt is successively distilled in two zones: in the first zone, the urea melt is subjected to adiabatic throttling to a pressure that is at least 0.01-0.4 MPa lower than the synthesis pressure, and to adiabatic separation; in the second zone, distillation is carried out in a current of carbon dioxide while heat is supplied from an external source. The result is an increase in the specific capacity of a urea synthesis reactor and a reduction in the gas and heat load on a stripper and distillation column."

The patent application was internationally filed on Feb. 15, 2024, under International application No.PCT/RU2024/050040.
