MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641051549 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on April 22, for 'predictive data lineage impact engine for dependency graph-based change propagation analysis.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. V. Sivakumar; Dhamodharan D; and Sarvesh M. K.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A computer-implemented predictive data lineage impact engine (100) for modeling dependency graphs and simulating propagation of data changes across distributed data processing pipelines is disclosed. The system (100) comprises a metadata acquisition module for ingesting structural metadata and transformation logic, a schema analysis module for normalizing metadata into a unified representation, and a data lineage construction module for mapping relationships between data assets. A dependency graph generation module constructs a graph comprising nodes and edges representing data dependencies. A change propagation simulation module applies proposed modifications within a virtual execution environment and performs recursive traversal to identify affected nodes including transitive dependencies. An impact scoring module computes a quantitative score based on connectivity, criticality, and dependency depth, thereby enabling structured evaluation of propagation characteristics within the dependency graph."
