MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517095953 A) filed by Proterial, Ltd., Tokyo, on Oct. 6, 2025, for 'precursor of positive electrode active material for lithium-ion secondary battery, method for producing same, positive electrode active material for lithium-ion secondary battery, and method for producing same.'

Inventor(s) include Nakabayashi Takashi; and Tokoro Hisato.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The objective of the present invention is to provide: a method for producing a precursor of a positive electrode active material for a lithium-ion secondary battery which contributes to a reduction in GHG emissions and is easily pulverized; and a method for producing a positive electrode active material for a lithium-ion secondary battery. In addition, the objective of the present invention is to provide: a precursor which can be easily pulverized; and a positive electrode active material for a lithium-ion secondary battery which has a stable crystal structure and good electrochemical characteristics. The method for producing a precursor of a positive electrode active material for a lithium-ion secondary battery includes: a mixing step for mixing a metallic nickel powder and a lithium-containing compound; and an oxidation step for oxidizing the metallic nickel powder after mixing, wherein the precursor obtained after the oxidation step includes a lithium metal oxide having a peak at 2?=43.5-44.0 as measured by X-ray powder diffraction."

The patent application was internationally filed on Sept. 18, 2024, under International application No.PCT/JP2024/033304.
